# Install the extension

Use the [download page](/download) for the published release and its platform-specific instructions. Windows and macOS releases must be listed there before they are available to install.

## Before you start

You need Adobe Premiere Pro, a TCaption subscription and an internet connection for activation and cloud transcription. Check the release notes for the Premiere and operating-system versions tested with that release.

Save your project and close Premiere before installing.

## Windows

Download the Windows installer from the official download page. Run it and follow its installation steps. If your system reports that the file is untrusted, verify its source and release details before proceeding.

## macOS

Download the signed extension package from the official download page and follow the instructions supplied with that release. Do not use development-mode instructions as a substitute for the published installation process.

## Font and panel

Install the included Montserrat Black font if the installer has not done so. The templates use this font by default; a missing font can change line breaks and spacing.

Restart Premiere and open **Window > Extensions > TCaption**. The exact menu wording can vary between Premiere versions. Then [activate your subscription](/docs/getting-started/activate).

Some optional effects require separately installed third-party plug-ins. These are not included with a TCaption subscription.

## Updates

Settings shows the installed version and available updates. A verified Windows installer can be staged for installation after Premiere closes. Otherwise, use the download page and follow the manual installation instructions for your platform.
