# Transcribe

Open the sequence you want to caption. Choose the full sequence or its in and out range, then start transcription.

TCaption extracts audio locally and sends the audio to its cloud transcription service. Video frames are not uploaded for this feature. The service returns text with word timings. An internet connection and active subscription are required.

The panel shows progress while it prepares audio and waits for the service. Larger ranges take longer. If transcription fails, read the error before retrying and check the selected audio range.

## Minutes and retries

The duration submitted for transcription counts against your monthly allowance. Successful transcription consumes the reserved minutes; failed requests release their reservation. Starting another transcription can consume more minutes.

Editing text, changing line breaks and applying caption styles do not consume transcription minutes. Your [account](/dashboard) shows current usage and the allowance reset date.

## Review the result

Names, accents, background sound and overlapping speech can affect accuracy. Play through the [transcript](/docs/steps/review), correct the wording and review word timing before styling.

Audio and transcript processing also involve configured service providers. Read the [privacy policy](/privacy) for details.
